Patient 1 and 2 still not clear of Covid-19; both remain positive after second test

By BBN Staff: Today, the Director of Health Services, Dr. Marvin Manzanero informed that patient 1 and 2 were tested again and their results returned positive for Covid-19 again.

Dr. Manzanero indicated that after spending more time in quarantine, the patients will be tested a third time to see if they are still positive.

On Monday, March 23, a San Pedro resident who had just returned from Los Angeles, California, became Belize’s first confirmed case of Covid-19.

Then two (2) days after on March 25, Prime Minister Dean Barrow informed the nation that Belize had confirmed a second case of Covid-19 in Belize. Patient #2 is a close relative of patient number #1. A state of emergency was subsequently declared for San Pedro and travel to and from the island was largely disallowed.

Both patients have been in self isolation in San Pedro Ambergris Caye and to date no other resident of San Pedro has tested positive.
