By Aaron Humes: Director of Health Services Dr. Marvin Manzanero today explained that it has been decided to extend the time of quarantine for patients infected by COVID-19 to 21 days from 14.
It comes after the follow-up tests on the first two patients returned positive results, indicating they have not fully recovered despite being asymptomatic.
Dr. Manzanero reminded both those afflicted with the disease, those closest to them and the country at large that full clearance depends on completely isolating from public and not giving the disease a chance to propagate.
Two consecutive negative tests are needed to clear quarantine and the Ministry is aware of and studying literature showing that people can and have been reinfected by COVID-19.
The protocol remains, as the country goes into national lockdown Saturday night: stay at home, only go out for the most dire emergencies ad continue to disinfect, wash hands and follow social distancing.
