By BBN Staff: Thousands of Belizeans were laid off from their jobs recently due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a result, numerous families around Belize have been seeking assistance from the government for food.
The Ministry of Human Development, Social Transformation and Poverty Alleviation had issued phone numbers for Belizeans to contact them for assistance. However, this morning, Cayo South area representative, Julius Espat took to social media to express disappointment with the process for food distribution.
Espat says that despite calling The Ministry a number of times, no one has answered his calls.
“We have been calling from Cayo South since morning and nobody has answered our calls. Yes we need food assistance for our residents and we should not be begging for it. No work, no credit, no bus. That is our reality PM. Send the food to the villages and let the local elected leaders along with the security forces distribute the food to all.”
Espat suggested that food assistance be given to village leaders around the country to share among the residents.
