By BBN Staff: The Cayo District Association of Village councils (DAVCO) has written to the Ministry of Human Development expressing concern over the situation among residents of rural villagers.
“Our people, the people of rural Belize are likewise confronted with this dreadful disease and the crisis that it has caused. Our villagers have also felt the brunt of this economic disaster, they too have lost their jobs, their livelihood and are fighting for survival awaiting whatever aid the Government will distribute. A large portion of our Rural population are among the poorest people in our Country and desperately need help, but they need help now,” DAVCO noted.
In addition, DAVCO informed that the Government has not yet reached the communities and have not assisted with the immediate needs of the villagers.
The DAVCO calls for an urgent, practical and effective plan be adopted and implemented to address the immediate needs of the villagers.
“The distribution of food is essential to the survival of many,” the letter stated.
The Cayo District DAVCO says that it stands along with all village councils willing and ready to assist and says that they ‘must be considered an integral component of any attempt to seriously address the dire needs of our villages.’
