Attorney General discusses new changes to regulations expected to become effective on Friday

Posted: Wednesday, April 15, 2020. 4:09 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Attorney General, Micheal Peyrefitte, was on the Ask the Experts show this afternoon and informed the nation of some of the changes to the regulations regarding the current state of emergency that the country is in.

Peyrefitte began by explaining that the latest Statutory Instrument was amended so that what applied to the Cayo District now applies to the entire country.

Peyreffitte informed that the National Oversight committee is making more decisions and new amendments will be made that will become effective on Friday.

Some of the things that will become law on Friday include:

Curfew: Children under the age of 16 will be allowed to move between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. After 4 p.m. no child should be on the street even if that child is with their parents. The Attorney General urged everyone to respect the regulations.

There will also be an amendment relating to doctors. Peyrefitte did not elaborate on details but said that there was an incident and that the matter must be addressed now.

Doctors working at private healthcare facilities and public health care facilities will need to stick to their facility. Peyreffite said that there must be no ‘doubledipping”.

The store fronts of Belize Telemedia Limited, Belize Water Services, Belize Electricity Limited and Smart are closed but will be allowed to open beginning Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for bill payments ONLY. They will not be open for business as usual.

“This is not the law now, but will be the law by Friday,” Peyrefitte reiterated.
