By BBN Staff: Director of Health Services, Dr. Marvin Manzanero today explained the content and importance of a memo that was leaked to the media yesterday.
Dr. Manzanero says that the memo was “obviously misinterpreted” after it circulated on social media last night.
According to Manzanero, the memo was sent out to each management team in the 4 health regions.
Manzanero explained that the memo urged medical professionals that are employed within the government system to curtail any private practice for the time being.
Furthermore, he said that the management teams already knew about the decision since it was discussed on Good Friday with them.
The memo is asking professionals employed permanently within the government system to refrain from engaging in private practice to safeguard the service and human resources.
The director further explained that 3 of the 18 patients with COVID-19 were seen by doctors in private facilities before public doctors.
The memo highlights that if a doctor was exposed while in the private sector and is then asked to be on quarantine for 21 days, that can cause issues with human resources and the health system.
“That memo makes no reference to private practitioners outside of the government system,” Manzanero asserted.
