More than 100 detainees at home after imprisonment

Posted: Friday, April 17, 2020. 12:09 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Today more than a hundred detainees are out of prison and at home.

Last night they were released after spending 30 days at the Belize Central Prison in a state of emergency issued for south side Belize City.

In mid-March these persons were incapacitated after violence erupted in Belize City.

Several women and children had lost their lives in the carnage.

In one instance a mother, her child and her boyfriend were all executed inside their home.

The entire country had gone into panic mode.

A breath of relief came when the state of emergency was issued for Belize City’s hot spots.

Since then there were no murders reported in Belize City.

Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, had indicated that there was a possibility that the men detained from those hotspots could remain imprisoned for another 30 to 60 days.

It is left to be seen if that will be the case.
