Director of Health Services clarifies report of recovered San Pedro patients

Posted: Sunday, April 19, 2020. 12:41 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Earlier today Channel 7 News reported that two persons that tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered.

The report repeated what the Director of Health had confirmed that the two persons from San Pedro had not developed any major symptoms nor did they require hospitalization. In fact, these two persons were in self-isolation at home and were maintaining constant communication with the Ministry of Health personnel.

That report was met with celebration online. However, a release issued a short while ago by the Office of Director of Health Service clarified that “NO patient has recovered according to the established definition of a recovery case.”

In a previous session of Ask The Experts it was announced that a patient has to have two consecutive negative for COVID-19 before they are considered truly negative.

If the two persons from San Pedro indeed tested negative in their most recent test, this is welcome news and BBN along with Belizeans from all walks of life hope that they will both test negative again for COVID-19 and be considered recovered.
