By Aaron Humes: Teachers are not on holiday, Minister of Education Patrick Faber asserts.

Their roles are key and appreciated, such as ensuring the Ministry’s plans are followed and engaging in their own professional development.

At high school level, teachers will develop and identify appropriate lessons, engage students in distance learning and follow up on their own professional development.

The Minister says no expectations or requirements should create undue burdens on the children or families. Be sure to contact your child’s teacher or principal or the national hotline at 615-7579 or 615-7402 with any concerns.

On the issue of promotion and graduation, pre-schoolers should be promoted as appropriate, and likewise for primary schools subject to providing special assistance and for Standard Six, those who have met the requirements and are 14 years old can be graduated to secondary school.

The same applies at secondary school – promote and ensure they have done the remedial work. School boards are asked to relax the usual requirements for graduation.
