Posted: Wednesday, April 22, 2020. 5:07 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: University of Belize President Dr. Clement Sankat, citing continued “uncertain times” has announced a reorganization of services at the institution.

The national university is shifting to primarily online and distance learning with the goal of successfully completing the current semester – the summer semester has been canceled.

Graduation is postponed till October but the University aims for an August 1 reopening – the anniversary of its establishment as a merger of five higher level learning colleges.

The University is still taking applications for the current year.

But as for the current semester, no face to face classes will be held and the University’s offices are closed except for urgent business.

The University had polled students as to how to proceed and its decisions come after a board meeting on Tuesday.

President Sankat encouraged students to remain committed to their University careers and to stay safe.
