Belize On – a new online shopping site offers produce for sale direct from local farmers

By Lisa Shoman: On Monday, I decided to take the plunge. To do good, by doing good.

Belize On, the new fabulous Belizean online shopping site that is the genius of Kay Menzies, mi bally, was offering for sale, bags of produce from CAYO, direct from Cayo Farmers, to help farmers during this crisis, and help consumers get fresh local farm to table produce.

I know the price sounded a little high, but I’m provisioning 3 households, mine plus buying for beloved elders that do NOT need to be out. Mirna Shoman, you needa.

So I bought two bags of produce from the platform. Signing up was easy, as was payment – used my AtlaBank credit card, and I was duly emailed confirmation of my order. Total time? Fifteen minutes flat including searching for my wallet.

Produce was delivered yesterday to my door -and I was absolutely pleased. Packed in biodegradable bags! Yes! On Earth Day! 🌍

The lettuces were a little crushed (No biggie) and the cilantro was neatly bagged and looked a bit thirsty but nothing that a cold water perk couldn’t fix. There was a huge, juicy head of cabbage in each bag, beautiful deep purple eggplant (baba ganoush) big crunchy carrots, nice fresh medium-sized cucumbers, 6/7 lovely tomatoes that were firm and on the greenish side perfect for counter ripening, 6 nice firm onions, 7 lovely crunchy small sweet peppers (which I prefer) and two of the BIGGEST nicest sweet potatoes I have ever seen (oven fries!)

Belize On, I thank YOU. Together we helped Cayo Farmers, and I got produce and had enough to share!

I hear a fruit box is coming up next. I want cashews- and mango 🥭 green and turn and ripe! And Papaya please. Ah wah buy!

I want to commend Kay Menzies and her staff – and especially the lovely delivery crew who asked for improvement suggestions. You are wonderful!
