Dr. Marvin Manzanero: “Need 28 days without case of COVID-19 before outbreak is declared over”

Posted: Thursday, April 23, 2020. 11:27 am CST.

By BBN Staff: On April 21, 2020, Director of Health Services, Dr. Marvin Manzanero informed the nation that in order for an outbreak to be declared over, we would need to go 28 days without a confirmed case of COVID-19.

Belize has now gone with 9 consecutive days with no confirmed case of COVID-19, and if today is free of case, it would be 10 consecutive days.

At this time, Belize’s active positive cases of COVID-19 stands at 11. Five patients have recovered and 2 passed away.

Manzanero also informed that Belize never transitioned into stage 2 of the response but remained at stage 1 while taking stage 3 measures.

Manzanero also shared that Mexico had declared a stage 3 situation in their country and they expected to reach a peak on May 23, to give Belizeans an idea on where the country is with relations to the closure of that border.

The Ministry of Health is working with the Statistical Institute of Belize to create a tool that maps out a curve and different scenarios so that the public can view. The Ministry says that all policy decisions are made based on the situations in Belize.
