Prime Minister: Belize eases restrictions while holding steady in COVID-19 fight

Posted: Thursday, April 23, 2020. 2:54 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Prime Minister Dean Barrow says the quarantine order given on April 11 will not be extended when they expire on Saturday, April 25.

However, the incumbent state of emergency proclamation which expires on April 30, will be extended once the National Assembly meets next Monday and Tuesday.

It means Government offices and transportation can resume, but while the lock-down will be eased, restrictions will remain in some form.

While cases have been limited, Belize is not flinging caution to the wind.

Approvals for the Unemployment Relief Program, special food assistance program and ongoing Food Pantry and BOOST programs have continued apace.

The Prime Minister concludes with thanks to Belizeans for their understanding and reminding that Belize can win this fight.
