Belize national to be prosecuted in China for ‘Hong Kong’ interference

Posted: Friday, April 24, 2020. 8:34 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The International Business Times and other international media sites are reporting that China has detained a Belizean national who will be prosecuted for charges of colluding with foreign forces in protest-wracked Hong Kong and funding “hostile elements of the United States.”

The protests in Hong Kong last year was rocked with months of massive demonstrations. In recent months, the protests died down due to COVID-19.

Chinese authorities confirmed to the media that investigations into Lee Henley Huxiang for financing criminal activities against national security were completed.

The report says that the case for the Belize national has been transferred to Guangzhou People’s Procuratorate for prosecution.

The Times noted that Belize has no diplomatic relations with Beijing since it is an ally of Taiwan.

Several news sites reported that Lee was a Belizean businessman living in China.

He is also accused of funding criminal activities engendering China’s national security.
