Give us this day our daily bread – A tribute to Karla Cano Turton

By Lisa Shoman: When I gave her the challenge of making a wedding cake in the form of sandcastle (but just like if a kid made it), and she rose to the challenge and executed it magnificently complete with a little flag, assorted sea shells and iridescent brown sugar sand, I knew she was a certified GENIUS.

But Karla Cano Turton never stops exceeding expectations. Obliged to shut down her business due to 🦠, Karla never once thought of sitting still. She can’t. Like me she has hummingbird genes.

Instead Karla started to bake artisanal bread at home, along with sweet and salt buns, gourmet cookies and cinnamon rolls.

And yesterday, after eyeing her creations for weeks (and bothering her with ridiculous suggestions for various goodies) – I was presented with manna straight from heaven.

Not only did she package the baked goods beautifully, but the indescribable smell wafting out of the amazing brown paper bag, buckled my knees…

The MOST BEAUTIFUL fragrant pretty decorated small round loaf of whole wheat bread, still warm; the yummiest polvoron ever; a scrumptious chocolate chip and oat cookie and the piece de resistance – a magnificent chewy, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, round loaf of OLIVE BREAD !

It was the actual manifestation of manna from heaven.
