More fires reported in Vaca Forest

Posted: Saturday, April 25, 2020. 8:41 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Earlier this week, Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) reported on forest fires inside of the Vaca Forest.

FCD urged farmers to cease burning and asked for law enforcement to avoid the fires.

Last night, Jungle Splash Eco Tours posted to their social media page that they were assisting in dousing water over the fires in the Vaca Forest.

Jungle Splash issued a statement asking for help to save their home and their neighbors and calling on friends and colleagues to assist.

“We call on our friends and colleagues to do your part and help us save our home, our green Jewel that is now gray with ashes…Restlessly- over a week of fighting fires and giving assistance, our team fights on. If you can Help! This is our Vaca Plateau Mayan mountains.. This is happening right now. We sleep as our jewel burns,” Jungle Splash said.

In their statement earlier this week, FCD made several recommendations to the government to assist with the fires including  instituting a Binational Forest Fire Prevention Taskforce and heavier fines for people caught burning.
