Combined COVID-19 cases in CARICOM countries less than 1,000, recoveries rising

By BBN Staff: According to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, the combined number of COVID-19 infections for all member states remains less than 1,000, with a quarter of confirmed cases recovering from the virus.

Figures presented by the CARICOM Secretariat show that infections among member states stood at 974 as of April 24. Of those confirmed cases, 248 have recovered, a recovery rate of around 25 percent. Meanwhile, combined regional deaths from COVID-19 stood at 57.

By country, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Bermuda have been hit the hardest by the pandemic with 257, 115, and 99 confirmed cases respectively. Notably, the Bahamas has the most deaths from COVID-19 than any other CARICOM nation, 11 total.

The British Virgin Islands, Suriname, Turks and Caicos Islands and Montserrat were impacted the least, with 5, 10, 11, and 11 confirmed cases respectively.
