Over 20 people arrested for going to river, defying SI orders

Posted: Sunday, April 26, 2020. 6:18 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Earlier today Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, made a splash online announcing via his Facebook account that anyone caught out at any river would be arrested for violating the current Statutory Instrument order on the current State of Emergency as it does not provide for the public being out recreationally or for any other reason than a valid emergency.

According to Williams, those arrested were from the Cayo and Orange Walk districts.

“They were found recreating on the banks of rivers,” he noted while assuring that police would continue to enforce the laws associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Williams ended by asking the public to do their best in ensuring they comply with the current regulations. And with that Belizeans remain relegated to the dryness of their homes as record heat and fires rage across the country.
