Coping in Uncertain Times

By Rudolph A. Neal: As we seek to meander and struggle to cope in these uncertain times, one must ask the question: “have we as a people lost our way and have we forgotten who we are and what have once made us great?”.

Yes admittedly, without a shadow of a doubt, this virus is quite unlike anything we have ever seen in modern times. It has mounted and waged war against our health, our people, our job and food security — but more so is leading a combat against our mental idiosyncratic security and the soundness of our mental stability. This then begs the question, why have we allowed this pandemic to control our thoughts and mindset? Why have we allowed this virus to render us slaves and prisoners of our own mind? Have we little or no faith? Have we lost our way and forgotten who we are?

Amidst the raging storm and this pandemic of life, it is important and imperative that we know and remember that tomorrow, always dawns a new day. We must recall to mind that we are a people of faith with steadfast trust in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ who alone can bring us through the storms of life. It is noteworthy to remind you that you are a fierce and bold and resilient people who were taught from early on that if we fall seven times, to rise an eight. We are a people of builders, constructive thinkers and if nothing else we know how to overcome.

Let us as we channel through these dark times of uncertainty remember who we are and from whence we came. Let us not forget the dark, cold days of colonialism and hardships, yet we we overcame. Let us remember the dark days of our ancestors that is embedded deep in the annals of history that tells a tale of their struggle and strife, yet they overcame. Let us not forget the dark days in Belize’s history, the challenges, the storms and the trying times, yet we overcame. Let us remember that we not only overcame, but how we did it. We overcame because we held strong to our faith and the very rudimentary principles of life that reminds us that if we stand united in brotherhood and love, we can go far, together.

Let us remember the agape love and mercy of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Let that love not only shine in us and through us but permeate in the deep embers of our soul that moves us to actionable love and care for each other. In so doing, may we raise our voices to counsel and inspire. Let us raise our hands to help and build up one another. Let us show our might to love and care, especially to those who need it most and to those who we deem as “unlovable”. Remember, we serve an Awesome and an all Powerful God who will not only see us through but inspire in us a love and peace that will calm our minds and restore our joy. Therefore, let us lean on that timeless creed and let it resound and resonate through the rattling of our veins to the depth of our souls as we loudly proclaim and fearlessly promulgate: Yes we Can and Yes we Will, overcome!

God Bless Belize!
