What’s next? asks Senator Chebat after the State of Emergency is approved

Michel Chebat

By Aaron Humes: Senate Opposition Leader Michel Chebat, opening today’s debate in the Senate, has called for a concrete plan to shepherd Belize into, during and following the coming extension of the period of public emergency.

Quoting a letter to the co-chairs of the National Oversight Committee from the Belize Network of Non-Governmental Organizations, Chebat listed conditions for that organization’s support including the creation and dissemination of a concrete plan for re-opening the economy.

For the Opposition, Chebat requested the Government ‘stop playing games’ with the ongoing relief programs and otherwise politicizing the crisis.

He asked what will be the plan for addressing non-COVID-19 health issues, education, agriculture and other key areas. Chebat pressured the Government side asking where is the money that has been collecting since the start of the COVID-19 crisis in Belize.
