Ministry of Human Development: Persons that qualified for food assistance will be contacted; no need to re-apply

Posted: Wednesday, April 29, 2020. 4:21 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Thousands of Belizeans lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Human Development’s food assistance program has been receiving calls from Belizeans all over the country.

Belizeans that applied and are eligible for the program would receive a call from an assessment officer of the Ministry of Human D

evelopment. The assessment officer will process the applicant and inform if they have been approved.

Once the order has been processed, the applicants will receive 2 sets of numbers with instructions on how to obtain their food assistance.

Successful applicants are encouraged to wait a half day before checking in at the stores to allow for time to complete the order.

The Ministry notes that eligibility for the program depends on factors such as other assistance that the household is receiving which is verified by the Social Security Board and the Ministry’s internal boost and pantry database.

Many successful applicants that have received the food assistance took to social media to express concern since they were told that in order to access food assistance again, they must re-apply.

Breaking Belize News spoke to Judith Alpuche who explained that there is no need to re-apply. Alpuche says that the applicants who continue to be eligible for the food assistance will be contacted to once again obtain the assistance.
