By BBN Staff: This morning, the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) informed that airplanes have completed work over El Pilar area and have moved to the areas between San Ignacio Town and Teakettle Village as the smoke from there continues to flow into San Ignacio.
PACT also informed that the fire in the Vaca Forest Reserve is now significantly suppressed in great part thanks to the rain that fell directly over it.
“As a result, work in Vaca has shifted to on the ground mopping up and PACT will continue to provide fuel support to the fire crews to complete this over the next few days,” PACT said.
The Forest Department also completed an overflight of Vaca and Chiquibul and identified a small fire burning along the border near the Caballo CP which is being monitored by a ground team ahead of any aerial water bombing later today, if necessary.
The Ministry of Environment will continue assessments to direct the planes where most needed.
