 AG explains amendment to SI, most businesses allowed to open

By BBN Staff: The Attorney General, Micheal Peyrefitte explained today that the Governor General Colville Young has signed unto an amendment to Statutory instrument 65 of 2020.

The AG said that despite the relaxed measures, certain regulations still remain in effect. Belize’s borders remain closed.

The adult curfew is still in place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and for children as of 6 p.m.

Everyone is urged to wear face masks in public places.

Social distancing must also be practiced.

The AG said that more businesses are being allowed to open and adhere to the social distancing regulations.

However, the places that must remain closed are casinos and game establishments, spas, gyms, sporting complex, discoteques, bars, rum shops ands night clubs.

“All businesses are allowed to open except those that we stated should remain closed,”Peyrefitte said.

Street vendors are still not allowed on the street but can sell from a private property and the buyers can buy and take it.

No swimming is allowed in rivers or the sea.
