Daycares remain closed until further notice; babysitters allowed to work

Posted: Monday, May 4, 2020. 10:09 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Human Development, Social Transformation, and Poverty Alleviation reminded the public today that daycares will remain closed until further notice.

The Ministry says that the decision is under the advice of the Ministry of Health and in line with the school closures announced by the Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports, and Culture to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

As announced by the Attorney General, and according to the latest statutory instrument, SI No. 65 of 2020, governing the country’s state of emergency, the public is advised that while daycares are not permitted to operate, babysitters are allowed to work by going to a person’s home or caring for a child in their home.

“As the country slowly begins to resume operations, the Ministry acknowledges the difficulty caused by this decision and asks the public for its continued understanding as these precautions are being taken in the best interest of children and communities during this global pandemic,” a statement from the government said.
