By Aaron Humes: Interested in a cruise, or if a tourism worker, when the cruise lines come back to Belize?
Carnival Cruise Lines on Monday announced a phased-in return of cruises from Miami and Port Canaveral, Florida; and Galveston, Texas, beginning on August 1.
No cruises will be held in the months of June and July, but ships will leave starting August 1 from Miami (Carnival Magic, Horizon and Sensation); Port Canaveral (Breeze and Elation) and Galveston (Dream, Freedom and Vista).
No other North American or Australian cruises will be held through the end of August.
Carnival says it is committed to supporting the public health efforts and chose these ports as most accessible for its customers. It is engaging health authorities as to further measures it needs to take.
Belize closed all its ports of entry including the Belize Tourism Village in Belize City and Harvest Caye, owned by Norwegian Cruise Lines, toward the end of March, and they remain closed through at least the end of June under the State of Emergency Orders. Prime Minister Dean Barrow is favourable toward reopening tourism on a larger scale as soon as possible, but he noted that with limited air and other travel, it may not be feasible right away.
