By BBN Staff: A total of 61 people were arrested yesterday for violating the State of emergency Regulations, which remain in effect until June 30.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams’ update, issued this morning, showed that 26 people were arrested for “Failing to wear a cloth mask or other face (mouth) covering whilst in public,” 15 people were arrested for “Breach of curfew,” 14 people were arrested for “Unable to provide a reasonable explanation or proof for movement outside of curfew,” three people were arrested for “Cross District Movement,” two people arrested for “Failing to practice social distancing,” and one person arrested for “Entering Belize illegally.”
On May 1, regulations came into effect requiring everyone in a public place to be wearing a mask. Updates to the regulations since then have not affected this requirement. The most recent update to the regulations was Statutory Instrument no. 67 on May 5, which prohibited daycare centers from opening.
