Belize inches closer to end of COVID-19 pandemic

Posted: Saturday, May 9, 2020. 5:43 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: Belize remains at 18 confirmed cases of COVID-19, all but two of whom have recovered.

As of this evening only 1 person tested remains under investigation, i.e. awaiting test results.

There appears to be a discrepancy between the number of tests given (1,196) and number of negative tests recorded (1,168), a difference of twenty eight. With the 18 confirmed cases and one under investigation, that still leaves nine unaccounted for.

In any event, Belize awaits reaching a full 28 days without a confirmed case. This is expected to happen by Monday, at which point the National Oversight Committee meets to discuss further relaxation of the rules of the State of Emergency. However, that State of Emergency continues until June unless rescinded by the National Assembly.
