By BBN Staff: The Belize Police Department arrested 48 people on Friday for violations against State of Emergency regulations.

Twenty one persons were charged for failing to wear a cloth mask or other face (mouth) covering whilst in public.

Sixteen people were charged for breaching the curfew.

Ten people were charged for being unable to provide a reasonable explanation or proof for movement outside of curfew.

The arrest and charge levied against a well known doctor from San Ignacio has caused public uproar. Dr. Fausto Pineda was detained and charged for engaging in private practice when prohibited from doing so.

The Belize Medical and Dental Association has issued a statement denouncing the rule for prohibiting doctors to engage in private practice during COVID-19 pandemic.

The association says that Dr. Pineda has been employed at the San Ignacio hospital since 2012.
