By BBN Staff: Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Keith Gilges is recovering well in the United States after being flown out of Belize for urgent but non-life-threatening, non-COVID-19 medical treatment last week, according to the US Embassy in Belmopan.

At today’s session of COVID-19 Watch, special guest from the US Embassy Beverly Mather- Marcus, acting deputy chief of mission, gave a brief update on Gilges’ condition.

“He is doing well and hopes to get back to Belize as soon as he possibly can…,” Mather-Marcus said. “He very much passes on his thank yous to the many many people of Belize who have sent well wishes and wishes for a speedy recovery…”

She added that the work of the embassy has gone on unimpeded in Gilges’ absence and that, through the chain of command, Management Officer Robert Peck has assumed the role of Chargé d’Affaires while Gilges is out. Gilges took up his post as Chargé d’Affaires in July of
2018, replacing Adrienne Galanek.
