Churches can now open, but with some restrictions

Posted: Thursday, May 14, 2020. 4:31 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Churches and other houses of worship are now allowed to open under the amended State of Emergency (SOE) regulations, however, some restrictions apply.

The new regulations state that churches can only hold services with a maximum of 10 people, despite the size of the building.

Smaller churches that cannot accommodate 10 people practicing social distancing adequately will have to reduce their numbers further. Children below the ages of 12 are also not permitted to participate in church services.

Persons who are attending services must wear a mask at all times and are only allowed to remove their mask during the service to receive the religious sacrament of “Holy Communion.”

The regulations were announced this afternoon by Attorney General, Michael Peyrefitte, who noted that the churches have representation on the National COVID-19 Oversight Committee, and had full participation in the process of developing the amended regulations.
