FECTAB members charged for protest

Posted: Thursday, May 14, 2020. 11:13 am CST.

By BBN Staff: Members of the Federation of Cruise Tourism Associations of Belize (FECTAB) are being charged for gathering in front of Channel 5’s headquarters on Coney Drive during Lord Michael Ashcroft’s appearance on Open Your Eyes.

Police were called to the scene to break up the gathering and several people were detained as a result. We have learned that those people have been taken to the Belama Police Station for Charges.

Tom Greenwood of FECTAB explained that the group had two reasons for heading over to Channel 5, the first was to secure an advertising space and the second was an attempt to speak with Lord Ashcroft.

“We were hoping to speak with Mr. Ashcroft on the issue of cruise ships and where we go from here and maybe see how he can help us. But it wasn’t a protest,” Greenwood said.
