By BBN Staff: Belize has gone a month without any new cases of COVID-19, prompting the Government of Belize (GOB) to further relax the State of Emergency (SOE) regulations; however, some provisions, such as the mandatory wearing of masks while in public, remain in place.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow gave an update today at his virtual press conference, explaining that churches can now open for worship, with the condition that only 10 people will be allowed in at a time. Social distancing is also required to be maintained. Persons exercising on the street in the morning can now do so without wearing a mask.
Meanwhile, bars, casinos, and street food vendors have still not been cleared to reopen. The newly relaxed measures are expected to be addressed in more detail this afternoon as Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte makes his next appearance on “Ask the Experts,” which will be streamed live this afternoon and can be found on the Government of Belize Press Office’s Facebook page.
