“Relaxed measures must be enjoyed responsibly,” says Attorney General

By BBN Staff: Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte said today that the Government of Belize will be relaxing the State of Emergency regulations, but that Belizeans must enjoy the increased freedom responsibly.

Peyrefitte said today that, while the measures allow for more movement, social distancing laws and curfew periods are still in effect.

He stressed that the regulations are in place for public safety and persons violating those regulations put themselves and others at risk of contracting COVID-19, which has killed over 300,000 people worldwide.

“As we seem to be coming slowly and slowly out of this pandemic, there is a possibility of a second wave or even a third wave. So what happens is that if we behave recklessly now because of the relaxations that will happen it could lead us to a situation where we go back to total lockdown,” Peyrefitte said.
