Fire causes smoke fog over Belmopan

Posted: Saturday, May 16, 2020. 3:24 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: Authorities responded to reports of a fire reportedly located south of Cotton Tree.

The Department of the Environment continues to warn citizens that burning is illegal and to cease from burning especially during the hot season.

Many residents are being affected by the smoke covering their area.

The Forest Department is urgently calling on the public, especially land developers, farmers and local communities to cease burning at this time.

The Forest Department also reminds the public that a permit is required for any agricultural burning.

Failure to provide evidence of this to the police can lead to arrest and prosecution.

The Forest Department will not be issuing any burning permits until further notice.
