“Chamber of Commerce comments played no role in decision to forego increments,” says PSU

By BBN Staff: The Public Service Union (PSU) categorically rejects any notion that the comments issued by the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) played any role in its decision to forego salary increments as a cost-saving measure for the Government fo Belize.

PSU Public Relations Officer, Dean Flowers, told our newsroom that a media house made a social media post suggesting the Chamber’s May 15 press release, which criticized the union’s reluctance to forego the increments, influenced the union’s decision, but it did not.

“Absolutely not. The Chamber, like every other organization or citizen monitoring the current situation in Belize,… has a right to an opinion. The chamber gave its opinion and its opinion is not the reality of the unions,” Flowers said. “The Chamber’s release played absolutely no role. Any article… that suggests that this was the case was the furthest thing from the truth.”
