By BBN Staff: The Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, informed yesterday that town councils do not have the authority to screen residents leaving or entering an island.
Williams was asked specifically about an issue reported to him on San Pedro.
Williams noted that he has informed the council that the statutory instrument empowers the security forces but not the town councils to engage in any screening.
The councils do not have the authority to demand that people obtain permission from them to leave or enter the island, Chester reiterated.
Williams says that he hopes that it is no longer occurring.
