By BBN Staff: The economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected employment in Belize at all levels, has now affected the medical field with the termination of two doctors who are a part of the non-permanent staff at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).
While the hospital authority is not releasing any official comment on the issue it has been confirmed that the affected doctors, who operate primarily in private practice, were served with letters of termination last week.
Sources tell BBN that the decision to release the non-permanent staff members forms a part of the hospital’s attempts to manage costs in an economic era that is difficult for the entire country.
Under the current State of Emergency regulations, doctors with private practices who also work in the public sector cannot conduct private business during the pandemic. One doctor was already arrested for violating that regulation.
