Belize at 9 weeks since first reported case of COVID-19

By BBN Staff: An update from the Ministry of Health issued today says that Belize is now at 9 weeks since we first confirmed a case of SARS-CoV2, the virus which causes the disease COVID-19 and that the country approaching 6 weeks since the last documented cases.

Director of Health Services. Dr Marvin Manzanero issued the update, noting that, the country still has a “long way to go”, given the increase in reported cases in neighboring countries Mexico and Guatemala.

“Let us not forget that within a time frame of 3 weeks we did go from 0 to 18 cases and within a 96 hr time frame we had gone from 9 to 18 cases,” Manzanero stated. The updated advised that Belizeans should “continue to stay safe and await for the official updates.”

Official reports from the Ministry show that the last 51 tests conducted in Belize all came back negative, putting the total number of tests done above 1,400 but keeping the number of confirmed cases at 18 and the number of deaths at 2.

Globally, the number of confirmed cases has exceeded 5.4 million, with over 30 percent of those cases being in the United States.
