By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Saturday, May 30 Saint Ignatius High School in Santa Elena, Cayo will host the first of its kind, virtual graduation.
Wagner Maldonado, 16, of San Marcos Village in Cayo is the school’s Salutatorian.
Maldonado shared with BBN some of the challenges he overcame during his high school years.
Maldonado says that his day began very early getting ready to travel to school via bus and he had many late nights completing assignments.
He says that missing the bus would be a $3 reduction of his allowance because he would have to pay for transportation to and from school.
But, when the rains came, and the village’s only board bridge would get flooded, Wagner says that he would wait for over 2 hours for the water to level to the knee so he could cross.
There, he would hitchhike to the junction and then travel in bus to school.
When the Maldonado family received the news of Wagner’s achievements, they were proud and very happy.
Wagner says he dreams of becoming a nurse and is seeking scholarship opportunities.
Wagner encourages all students to keep striving.
“Keep striving for the best and always appreciate the efforts of your contributors. With God’s blessings everything is possible, keep Praying,” Wagner said.
