By BBN Staff: Brazil recorded over 800 deaths related to COVID-19 this week, surpassing even the United States for number of deaths related to the virus in a single day, Reuters reports.
On Sunday, Brazil recorded a total 807 of COVID-19-related deaths, while the US recorded 620. Brazil, currently the second-worst hit country from the COVID-19 pandemic has recorded almost 375,000 cases with over 23,000 deaths, coming in behind the US which has over 1.6 million cases and over 97,000 deaths.
The presidents of both countries have been widely criticized for their responses to the pandemic, and the resulting impact those responses have had on their populations. Much like US President Donald Trump, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro repeatedly downplayed the severity of the pandemic and did not take decisive action to implement preventative measures to protect the Brazilian people.
Tens of thousands, including isolated indigenous populations within Brazil, have since been affected by COVID-19 and the deaths keep piling up on Bolsonaro’s watch.
COVID-19 has affected over 5.3 million people worldwide and claimed the lives of over 353,000 people. Meanwhile, 2.31 million people have recovered from the virus.
