Graduation ceremonies: Belize High School can go ahead

Posted: Friday, May 29, 2020. 12:28 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: It is one of the rites of passage, and many students have been looking forward to graduation from all levels of education.

But COVID-19 has shut mass gatherings and so it will be difficult in the circumstances.

However, the Belize High School, a private school affiliated with Belize Elementary School on Northside Belize City, issued a proposal for its ceremony to be considered by the National Oversight Committee and Cabinet.

While they felt it could be safe, the authorities decided to double check through the Ministry of Education with other schools for their plans to avoid either a one-size-fits all template or preferential treatment, according to the Prime Minister.

The latest from Minister Patrick Faber is that the various principals have developed individual plans for graduation ceremonies that will conform to social distancing requirements, and that BHS can proceed with their plan, which was not described in detail.
