By BBN Staff: Yesterday evening the National Meteorological Office issued a flood warning for Belize as a tropical disturbance moving through Central America was expected to bring heavy rains this weekend.
The rains began last night and flooding is already being reported in various parts of the Cayo district.
Due to the overnight rains, flooding of agricultural fields in the Valley of Peace and Kitty Bank area in Cayo is occurring. A section of the George Price Highway, particularly near Cotton Tree is also currently under water.
According to the National Meteorological Office, flooding in low lying areas, particularly in the South and inland areas is expected today. The extended forecasts calls for more rains across the country.
