SpaceX launches first crew to space

By BBN Staff:  Today, SpaceX launched its first passengers to space.

It is the first time in a decade that people have launched to orbit from US soil.
It is the first time in history that a private vehicle takes them to space.

The takeoff is the last big milestone for SpaceX as part of NASA’s commercial crew program.

The initiative tasked private companies with creating new spacecraft for NASA that are capable of transporting astronauts to and from space.

SpaceX spent the last 6 years working to reach today.

Last year, the company conducted a rehearsal successfully launching a capsule called the Crew Dragon to space.

The crew today include NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley.
