Tropical disturbance could strengthen to (short-lived) subtropical depression

Posted: Saturday, May 30, 2020. 8:37 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is closely monitoring a broad area of low pressure that is located over the central Atlantic Ocean about 500 miles east-southeast of Bermuda.

The associated shower activity has changed little overnight.

The NHC says that some development of this system is still possible through today and tonight, and it could become a short-lived subtropical depression while it moves northwestward over the central Atlantic.

The disturbance has a medium (60 percent) chance of formation during the next 48 hours.

After that time, further development is not anticipated due to unfavorable environmental conditions.
