Two dead in Rio Hondo river accident, bodies retrieved

By BBN Staff: At least two people have been confirmed dead as a result of a road traffic accident that occurred last night in Orange Walk.

Around 6:55 p.m. police responded to reports of a traffic accident at the San Antonio bridge in Orange Walk.

Authorities arrived at the scene and found a vehicle submerged in the Rio Hondor river.

With the assistance of some villagers, authorities removed a man from the vehicle.

The man had the name “DELFINA” tattoed across his left chest area.

The white 2006 GMC vehicle was also retrieved from the river.

The body of the man was taken to the Northern Regional Hospital where it was pronounced dead.

A post mortem is scheduled to be conducted.

The body is yet to be formally identified.

This morning, police retrieved a second body from the river believed to be another victim of the same accident.
