Johnson and Johnson announces human trials for COVID-19 vaccine in July

By BBN Staff: An article published on CNBC informed that today, Johnson and Johnson announced it will commence human trials for the coronavirus vaccine in July.

The company reportedly began developing the vaccine in January and is projected to begin trials in September.

The company informed via a press release that they have been able to further accelerate the clinical development of the investigational SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, Ad26.COV2-S, recombinant.

The company says that if the vaccine is safe and effective, it could produce up to 900 million doses by April 2021.

The trials will test the vaccine on 1,045 healthy adults ages 18 to 55 years and adults 65 years and older in the United States and Belgium.

The company’s efforts to develop this vaccine is to prevent COVID-19 which, has infected over 7 million people around the globe and killed over 400,000.

Around the world, there are 124 vaccines under development. The World Health Organization noted that 10 of those are in trials.
