Attorney General explains the curfew rollback and business hours

Posted: Thursday, June 11, 2020. 1:53 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: From tomorrow morning, Friday, Belizeans can be out and about between 5 a.m. and midnight as the latter is the end date for curfew on Fridays and Saturdays. But on Sunday, you must be in by 10 p.m. and this extends up to Thursday night.

The requirement that your purpose on the street be explained appears to be removed and no distinction is made between “approved business” and “essential business.”

But Attorney General Michael Peyrefitte reminded that loitering and “hanging out” remain offensive under the law.

All Government workers are expected to report to work at 8 a.m. Friday, Peyrefitte announced.

All businesses are allowed to open within the non-curfew period, but close an hour before the start of curfew, so 9 p.m. from Sundays to Thursdays and 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. And no businesses with a license specifying opening hours are only allowed to open between those specific hours.

Discos, rum shops, nightclubs and bars stay closed for now, as do daycare and childcare centers and nurseries.
