By Delroy Cuthkelvin: Let’s state first of all that we wish the very best for the health and personal well-being of Rt Hon Said Musa. While all indications are that he is gradually recovering, running for office in the upcoming general elections is very unlikely.
Understandably, PUP Leader John Briceno refrains from saying so, but moves are already afoot to replace the aging former Prime Minister as Fort George Standard Bearer. Reliable sources inside the PUP confirm tensions are building between Musa’s two sons to replace him in Fort George.
Henry Charles Usher, current PUP Chairman, feels he is entitled to the spot and gets the nod from John Briceno.
Meanwhile, Kareem Musa, under serious assault from the UDP’s Lee Mark Chang, is looking to abandon Caribbean Shores and switch to Fort George, which he believes is a relatively safer seat and would greatly aid his aspirations to challenge Briceno for the party’s leadership. It’s an intriguing development, and one we must continue to watch closely.
