Three Guatemalans busted entering Belize illegally

By BBN Staff: Reports reaching BBN is that three (3) Guatemalan nationals, who entered Belize illegally were busted and detained on Friday evening.

According to confirmed reports, on Friday evening, officers responded to a tip, and set up a check point in Unitedville Village.

At the checkpoint the officers detained the three (3) Guatemalan nationals that had reportedly entered the country illegally.

The Guatemalans were traveling at the time in a vehicle being driven by the Belizean who is allegedly an employee of a highly connected businessman of Belmopan.

The Guatemalan nationals were swabbed at the San Ignacio hospital and then taken to Victor Galvez stadium for mandatory quarantine.

Today, Belize confirmed its case #22 of COVID-19 and the office of the Director of Health Services said that the patient is a male that was caught entering the country illegally over the weekend.  The contact tracing for the patient is underway.

BBN could not confirm if the patient found to be positive for COVID-19 is one of the three (3) detained on Friday.
