National Hydrological Service says flood levels at Rio Hondo continue to fall slowly

By BBN Staff: The National Hydrological Service of Belize issued a report today informing that flood levels on the Blue Creek Sub catchment of the Rio Hondo at Blue Creek, Santa Cruz, San Antonio, San Roman, and Douglas continues to fall slowly.

The New River at Tower Hill and Caledonia is above normal and steady.

Moist and unstable conditions continue over the area.

As more showers are expected, the service continues to monitor water levels.

On the Macal River, reservoir levels remain below the spillways at Chalillo, Mollejon and Vaca facilities.

At San Ignacio, levels are below the low-level bridge and slowly rising.

The Mopan River at Benque Viejo Town is above normal and slowly falling.

On the Belize river, levels at Banana Bank and Double Run are normal and steady.

The Crooken Tree lagoon is below the causeway and falling.

The Sibun River near Freetown Sibun is above normal and rising slowly.

Levels are normal and steady on the Southern Lagoon near Gales Point Village.

The Sittee River at Kendal Bridge is normal and steady.  Levels are slowly falling on the Rio Grande at San Pedro Columbia and Big Falls.

The Moho River at Jordan is above normal and steady.

The Temash River near Crique Sarco is above normal and steady.

Over the next 48 hours, a slight increase in level is expected on the Rio Hondo.

Above normal and increasing levels is expected on the New River at Tower Hill and Caledonia.

A flood alert for the watersheds on the eastern slopes of the Maya Mountains remain.
